New construction homes come with a blank slate - and that's actually one of our favorite things to work with. No overgrown beds to tear out, no guessing what's underneath. Just raw dirt and a chance to build something right from the start.
Here's what we were working with: a brand new home that needed everything from the ground up. Fresh sod to establish the lawn, a full planting bed along the front of the house, and a curved gravel border that ties it all together. The goal was to complement the home's architecture without overdoing it.
The plant selection was deliberate. Low-growing shrubs mixed with flowering perennials give the bed layered texture - some structure, some color, nothing that's going to get out of hand. The curved concrete walk connects the driveway to the front steps cleanly, and the gravel border defines the bed without needing an edger every two weeks to keep it looking sharp.
Sod is often an afterthought on new builds, but it matters more than people realize. Getting quality sod laid on properly prepared soil sets the entire lawn up for long-term success. Skip that step, and you're fighting thin, patchy grass for years. We don't cut corners on the prep work.
This is exactly the kind of full-scope landscape work we do regularly for new builds and custom homes in Lake Elmo and the surrounding area. Getting the landscape right the first time saves a lot of headaches down the road.
