This Eagan backyard had a lot going on - a raised deck, a walkout lower level, and a slope that needed to be tamed. The homeowner wanted usable outdoor space underneath the deck, plus landscaping that would tie everything together without looking like an afterthought.

We installed a paver patio that runs the full footprint under the deck. It gives the lower level a clean, finished feel - and because it sits under the deck above, it stays dry and usable even when it rains. That's a big deal in Minnesota where outdoor time is limited enough as it is.

The landscaping side of this was just as important as the hardscape. We built out curved rock beds along the foundation and edges, added young perennials that will fill in over time, and set large natural stepping stones through the rock bed so there's a clear, intentional path from the yard into the patio. The curved bed edge keeps everything looking sharp and gives the space a finished, designed look rather than just plants dropped in the ground.

The staircase from the upper deck lands right into a curved paver landing at the base - so the flow from the upper deck, down the stairs, and into the lower patio feels connected. Nothing feels tacked on. That kind of continuity is something we think a lot about when we're planning these spaces.

Eagan yards like this one tend to have grade changes and multi-level setups that take some real planning to get right. When hardscape and landscape work together from the start, the end result speaks for itself.
